As a not-for-profit, the Antigua & Barbuda Ocean Trust (ABOT) needs experienced volunteer divers to help with a number of the programs it runs. Potential volunteer projects include:
- Clearing rubbish and plastics from the ocean, including fishing line, nets and beach rubbish. We organize cleanups along the shoreline, in shallow waters (snorkeling, kayaking and wading) and in deeper waters using scuba equipment
- Working closely with marine scientists who may require additional divers to assist with coral cleaning and out-plantings, seagrass and fish surveys, and many other projects
- Running organised and ad hoc lionfish hunts around Antigua and advocating the use of the meat by restaurants
- Becoming mentors for our Youth Eco-Diver program where we work with Antiguan dive schools to train young Antiguans as divers so they can become the next generation of marine conservationists and ecologists
